Campaign Journal #3 - In the Earth Temple

8th Day of Harvester, C.Y. 591

Last Session
  1. A group of troglodytes confronted the party about killing their pet manticore. Vannay blasted the entire group with an empowered fireball. All but their warrior leader was killed in the inferno.

  2. The leader challenged Uthgar to a duel, and Uthgar slew him. The leader wielded a greatsword with a brown triangle set into the pommel. This sword looked somewhat similar to the sword recovered in the Air Temple, which had a silver circle on it.

  3. The party explored the living quarters of one of the troglodytes, and Tyrin found a secret stash of items.

  4. An earth mephit was caught spying on the party, and Durnegar commanded him to go and warn Uskathoth, High Priest of Earth, that the Fire Temple is attacking.

  5. Uskathoth and three mephits returned and attacked the party. The party defeated the Earth Priest without casualty.

Food Prices Hit New High
Excerpt of article in the Furyondy Beacon, 4th Day of Reaping, C.Y. 591
Officials in the Viscounty of the March confirmed the grain shortages due to the crop blight have reached dire levels. The neighboring Barony of Littleberg is also experiencing similar problems. Lord Marten, advisor to King Belvor IV, said, “The March is the breadbasket of Furyondy. The coming winter will be difficult even if the problem is resolved.”

Clerics of Rao in Pantarn have suggested that the famine is not of natural origins. An unidentified source suggested that Iuz the Old is behind it. Other scholars have dismissed this possibility, saying it is “unlikely”. Archmage Tulliver Brandeen spoke at a recent conference stating, “Everyone is quick to blame Old Wicked for anything that goes wrong. His power base has fled, and he is but a shadow of his former self.”

The rise in grain costs, due to increased imporation, has made life difficult for families and businesses alike. The looming spectre of winter is drawing closer.

News of the Strange
From the Stargazer Flash
A man was arrested in Verbobonc last Waterday. He was charged with breaking into the home of a local resident and stealing a family heirloom valued at over 800 wheatsheafs. Also taken in the robbery were several bottles of mead of an unknown value. He was arrested while in the process of trying to melt down the silver statue at a local smithy. It appears that he was severaly intoxicated at the time of arrest, and he had severe burns on his hands and left arm. He was quoted by the arresting officer as saying, “They’re coming! They’re coming! We must be ready. Can’t you see that?” Officials declined to comment on the meaning of his statement.
